Pallets vs Crates vs Lumber for Construction Shipments

Construction and building materials don’t all ship the same way. Matching the right packaging to the load, whether that’s bulk distribution, sensitive components, or in-house bracing, keeps freight moving and crews working without delay.

Pallets: bulk throughput for distribution centers, staging yards, and jobsite delivery
Crates: added protection when shipping fixtures, hardware, or finished assemblies
Lumber and components: in-house bracing, custom framing, and material support builds

Construction & Building Materials FAQs

What information should I provide Troymill to get a quote on construction pallets and lumber?

Pallet or lumber type, dimensions, quantity, destinations, and timeline. For lumber, share footprint, grade, and monthly volume. For oversized pallets, include load weight and any handling constraints.

Can Troymill build oversized pallets for steel beams, drywall, and structural building materials?

Yes. Troymill manufactures oversized pallets up to 48' long and 100" wide, engineered through our Pallet Design System (PDS) which models bending, shear, and safe working load before any board is cut. Heavier or longer requirements are reviewed case by case.

What hardwood and softwood species does Troymill stock for construction lumber?

Troymill stocks oak, maple, poplar, and hickory hardwoods in random-length lifts and cut-to-size packs. Common sizes include 1x4, 1x6, 2x4, 2x6, 4x4, 4x6, and 6x6 in lengths from 6' to 16'. Southern Yellow Pine and Spruce-Pine-Fir are available when lighter weight or cost efficiency is preferred.

Does Troymill supply cut-to-size lumber for in-house bracing and packaging operations?

Yes. Troymill cuts stringers, deck boards, dunnage, and cribbing blocks to your exact spec before the load leaves the yard. Pre-cut industrial lumber feeds directly into automated nailers and assembly stations, cutting labor and waste on your end.

Can Troymill support bulk pallet supply for construction distribution centers?

Yes. Troymill produces over 50,000 pallets per week and cuts 2.5 million board feet of lumber per month, supporting recurring bulk orders and short-notice production runs. Our 50-plus acre facility maintains large on-site lumber inventories for predictable supply.

Does Troymill provide hardwood dunnage and cribbing for jobsite staging?

Yes. Troymill kiln-dries and machines hardwood dunnage boards, solid cribbing blocks, banding-groove dunnage, and wedge blocks. We supply dunnage from 2" x 2" boards up to 12" x 12" timbers, cut from dense oak, maple, and hickory for loads exceeding 10,000 pounds.

Can Troymill heat-treat construction packaging for export shipments?

Yes. Troymill operates an in-house ISPM 15 heat treatment facility with monitored 56 degree Celsius cycles for 30 minutes, ALSC-approved IPPC stamping, and digital heat-treatment certificates emailed with the bill of lading for customs records.

Does Troymill supply plywood and panel products alongside construction lumber orders?

Yes. Troymill stocks CDX plywood (1/2" to 3/4"), OSB (3/8" to 3/4"), industrial Birch-face, and MDO on request. Standard sizes include 48" x 96" and 48" x 120", with rip-cuts or cross-cuts available, shipped on the same flatbed as your lumber and pallet orders.
