Heavy-Duty Blocks, Beams & Cribbing You Can Trust
When your load tops ten thousand pounds, or when OSHA says “block it, don’t risk it”, Troymill hardwood timbers step in. Cut straight from dense oak, maple, and hickory, each piece is squared, milled, and stored under cover on our 50-acre Ohio campus. From 4 × 4 blocking sticks to 12 × 12 rig-crib beams up to 48′ long, we keep the sizes that riggers, millwrights, and coil yards reach for every day.
What Sets Troymill Apart
Advantage | Your Benefit |
High-Density Hardwoods | Superior crush resistance vs. pine; holds jacks and load corners without deformation. |
Tight Tolerances | Faces planed square within ± 1/16″—crib stacks stay level, no shims needed. |
Indoor Storage | Kiln-dried or green, boards remain clean and dry, providing a reliable coefficient of friction. |
On-Site Heat Treatment | ISPM 15 compliant timbers ship with digital HT certificates for export or cross-border moves. |
Rapid Fulfillment | Large, ready-to-pull inventory means shipping in days across the Midwest. |
Stock Sizes & Specs
Cross-Section | Lengths Carried | Availability |
4 × 4 – 6 × 6 | 24″ – 240″ | Every day blocking and cradle saddles |

Need something longer or thicker? Ask, we cut to spec and splice laminated beams when single-piece stock isn’t practical.
Common Uses for Hardwood Timbers
- Rig-Crib Towers – Layered 8 × 8 or 12 × 12 blocks to support jack heavy presses, trailers, turbines, and injection molds.
- Transformer & Generator Skids – Square beams form sturdy bases that won’t crush under vibration.
- Coil Rack Saddles – Chamfered ends and length-wise grooves cradle rolled steel and aluminum.
- Bridge & Pier Blocking – Temporary lagging and shoring during construction or repair.
- Container Bracing – Heat-treated sticks cross-hatch inside ocean containers for secure export loads.
Value-Added Processing
- Planing & Surfacing – Smooth faces prevent slippage during lift operations.
- Chamfers & Pyramids – Easy insertion under low-clearance loads.
- Banding & Groove Machining – Recessed strap channels keep freight secure.
- Precision Cutbacks – Lengths matched within 1/8″ for rigging sets.
- Color Coding & Stenciling – Quick ID of load rating or plant location.
Sustainability & Supply Chain Confidence
Troymill harvests less than we plant, converts sawdust to boiler fuel, and diverts off-cuts to mulch—so your heavy-lift projects don’t come at the planet’s expense. All hardwoods originate from responsibly managed North American forests; documentation is available upon request.
Frequently Asked Questions
A 12 × 12 oak block can handle static loads well north of 50,000 lbs. when properly supported. We’ll run numbers for your exact footprint.
Yes. Standard kiln cycles typically finish at 12-14 %, but we can target lower percentages for projects where shrinkage is a concern.
We focus on hardwood for its superior compression strength, but we can source pine or fir for temporary, lightweight applications.
Most sizes are in stock; however, extra-long beams may require an additional two days for precision trimming and transport permits.
Only if you request it, we segregate HT and non-HT inventory so domestic buyers aren’t paying for a spec they don’t need.
